Betting the $10,773 Pegasus World Cup Super High 5 carryover
Saturday is Pegasus World Cup (G1) day at Gulfstream Park, and the stakes-packed card has gotten even better with the emergence of a $10,773 Super High 5 carryover.
The $1 wager is available to play in none other than the Pegasus World Cup itself, Race 13 on the card. A dozen horses have entered the 1 1/8-mile contest, and we’re keen to support #11 Locked (5-2).
Winner of the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) as a juvenile, Locked went 2-for-2 during an abbreviated sophomore campaign. He trounced a seven-furlong allowance at Aqueduct before taking the Cigar Mile H. (G2) over the same track by 1 1/2 lengths over a deep field.
Locked brings strong Brisnet Speed ratings to his four-year-old debut and should appreciate stretching back out around two turns. We recommend taking a stand and keying him on top in the Super High 5.

Underneath, 2023 Pennsylvania Derby (G1) winner #2 Saudi Crown (9-2), 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner #4 White Abarrio (3-1), and two-time Charles Town Classic (G2) winner #10 Skippylongstocking (10-1) are contenders worth emphasizing. All bring tactical speed to the table, an asset since speed horses typically perform well in the Pegasus World Cup.
Here’s how we’ll bet the Super High 5:
- $1 Super High 5: 11 with 2,4,10 with 2,4,6,10 with 1,2,4,6,10 with 1,2,4,6,9,10 ($81)
Bonus carryover: $8,543 Super High 5 at Turfway Park
Saturday also brings an $8,543 Super High 5 carryover at Turfway Park. The prize pool for the $1 wager is up for grabs in Race 10, a $30,000 maiden claimer for older horses racing 1 1/16 miles on Tapeta.
#1 Hope Joe’s Right (3-1) is a logical morning-line favorite. He made his Tapeta debut in a 1 1/4-mile maiden special weight at Turfway last month, finishing sixth after tracking the pace and remaining in contention until the eighth pole. Dropping down in class and distances should put him in the hunt for victory.
Meanwhile, #2 Johnson (15-1) is a compelling live longshot to include on your tickets. He recently returned from an 18-month layoff to rally and finish third by 2 1/2 lengths in a $30,000 maiden claimer racing one mile at Turfway. That marked his first start for hot trainer Christopher Davis, who strikes at a 27% rate with horses running for the second time under his care. If Johnson improves at all in his second start back, he can record another top-five finish at enticing odds.
Good luck!
