Betting the 2024 Mrs. Revere Stakes

November 28th, 2024

An overflow field of 15 sophomore fillies are entered for Friday’s $300,000 Mrs. Revere S. (G2) at Churchill Downs. The 1 1/16-mile turf affair lacks a true standout in my view, and it looks like an event to take a shot with a progressive type for top honors.

Mrs. Revere Stakes Analysis for Churchill Downs

Regret S. (G3) victress #6 Pin Up Betty (5-1) has improved her Brisnet Speed figure in a trio of races in succession and gets the nod for conditioner Mike Maker. The Constitution homebred made her first run on the lawn in April following six tries on the dirt and synthetic, and the bay has found her niche on the green.

A dominant maiden winner locally on May 9, the Three Diamonds color bearer aced her first graded test on the lawn in the Regret following that triumph, and has run well with top company on the weeds in four races since. The bay was a creditable fourth in the Saratoga Oaks (G1) on July 6, which preceded a close runner-up performance in the Pucker Up S. (G3) at Ellis Park in August. She didn’t thrive on the Kentucky Downs turf two back when finishing 4 1/2 lengths back in the lucrative Dueling Grounds Oaks, but she was just a neck and a head from second behind the explosive More Than Pretty in the Queen Elizabeth II S. (G1) at Keeneland most recently.

Pin Up Betty has the tactical speed to get the jump on the deeper closing types in the affair, and I expect her to receive a nice trip from the second or third flight in the early stages of this race. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will take the reins.

#7 Minoushka (9-2) was bet to 11-10 odds in her U. S. debut and the Brendan Walsh trainee showed why with a powerful late-running allowance score under Tyler Gaffalione. This Starspangledbanner three-year-old made an impressive last-to-first move in the contest and could be almost any kind in her first graded run in the states. The French import, who fell a neck shy in a Group 3 tilt three back, has posted four nice morning drills in preparation for Friday and will surely appreciate some give in the ground, too. She will be making one run from off the expected honest early tempo.
