Chasing Pick 6 carryovers at Fair Grounds, Santa Anita
On the first day of February, handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares horses to play in a pair of non-jackpot Pick 6 carryovers at Fair Grounds and Santa Anita, as well as a Super High 5 carryover at Turfway Park.
Fair Grounds, Race 4: $1,761 Pick 6 carryover (3:45 p.m. ET)
Fair Grounds is starting the weekend with a $1,761 Pick 6 carryover.
The feature event in the sequence for the $1 wager is Race 7, the Robert “Bobby” Kelly Memorial S. for fillies and mares sprinting about 5 1/2 furlongs on turf. A 13-horse field (including two also-eligibles) has entered, and there are plenty of viable contenders.
One live longshot you won’t want to leave off your tickets is #2 Runninwiththeboyz (12-1). The six-year-old mare has spent most of her career competing in Southern California. Three starts back, she led by daylight at every call of an $80,000 allowance optional claimer sprinting about 6 1/2 furlongs down the hill, ultimately prevailing by 2 3/4 lengths with a flashy 90 Brisnet Speed rating.
Runninwiththeboyz faltered to fourth place when making her Fair Grounds debut in the 5 1/2-furlong Nelson J. Menard Memorial S., but that race was rained off the turf. Getting back on grass should allow Runninwiththeboyz to rebound—and quite possibly vie for victory—at double-digit odds.

Santa Anita, Race 5: $56,187 Pick 6 carryover (5:01 p.m. ET)
The stakes-packed Saturday card at Santa Anita is even more enticing now that there’s a $56,187 carryover up for grabs in the $1 Pick 6.
Looking for a single to build tickets around? Side with #5 Pilot Commander (3-5) in Race 7, an $80,000 allowance optional claimer for older horses dashing six furlongs on dirt.
Pilot Commander is descending in class off a pacesetting fourth-place finish (beaten only 2 1/2 lengths) in the seven-furlong Malibu (G1). He’d previously finished first in a six-furlong $50,000 allowance optional claimer and second in a 6 1/2-furlong $40,000 allowance optional claimer.
Pilot Commander’s last three efforts have yielded Brisnet Speed ratings of 100, 101, and 100. None of his Saturday rivals have recently posted a Brisnet Speed rating higher than 98. Add in the fact Pilot Commander is 2-for-2 sprinting six furlongs, and he’s a compelling choice while dropping down in class and distance for the red-hot jockey/trainer duo of Juan Hernandez and Bob Baffert.
Bonus: Turfway Park, Race 10: $19,066 Super High 5 carryover (10:25 p.m. ET)
Aside from the Pick 6 carryovers, Saturday bettors may wish to pursue the $19,066 prize pool up for grabs in Turfway Park’s $1 Super High 5.
The carryover is on the table in Race 10, a $7,500 claimer for horses who have never won three races. A competitive field has turned out for the one-mile Tapeta contest, and we recommend building tickets around #11 Knight’s Move (4-1). He’s earned sharp Brisnet Speed ratings while finishing fourth and seventh in his last two starts against $15,000 claiming competition at Turfway and should appreciate dropping in class.
Good luck!
