Davona Dale Contenders
#1 ATOMICALLY (8-1): The Girvin filly failed as the favorite last out in the Forward Gal, finishing 3 1/4 lengths in third behind Red Carpet Ready. She romped to a 6 3/4-length victory three back when stretching out to 1 1/16 miles in the Florida Sire My Dear Girl S. before being transferred to the barn of Todd Pletcher. Edgar Perez, Atomically’s former rider when racing at Gulfstream last summer and fall, will pick up the mount. Pletcher is a 24% winner with horses making their second start off a layoff and a 22% winner with horses going from short to long.
#2 INFINITE DIAMOND (10-1): Trained by Patrick Biancone, an 11% winner this meet, Infinite Diamond kicked off her three-year-old campaign with a 2 1/4-length win in the one-mile Cash Run S. at this track on Jan. 1. The chestnut recorded a career-best 94 Brisnet Speed rating while earning her second win from two tries at today’s distance. Her prior attempt at a mile resulted in a dominant 14-length tally in a $50,000 maiden special weight at Gulfstream back in September.
#3 RED CARPET READY (2-1): Undefeated in three career attempts, two of which were at the stakes level, Red Carpet Ready will stretch out to a mile for the first time for trainer Rusty Arnold, who is just 5-for-66 at Gulfstream this meet. The Oscar Performance filly posted a 97 BRIS figure in her latest triumph, the Forward Gal, good for the highest last race speed rating and best dirt speed figure among the field. Luis Saez (22% winner this meet) will stay in the saddle, and Arnold is a 19% winner with horses making their second start off a layoff.
#4 POSITANO SUNSET (8-1): By Goldencents, Positano Sunset is 1-for-4 for her career, with her lone victory coming in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs in November. Last out, the filly came home 11 lengths in fourth in the Golden Pal and will now try a route for the first time. Trainer Ian Wilkes is an 8% winner both at Gulfstream and in his last 117 graded stakes.
#5 UNDERVALUED ASSET (3-1): Second to Red Carpet Ready in the Forward Gal, Undervalued Asset flashed a 94 Speed rating in her second career start and will now stretch out to eight furlongs for the first time. Trainer Chad Brown is a 27% winner with horses making their first start at a route and a 29% winner second off the layoff. Irad Ortiz Jr. will retain the mount and strikes at a 28% with route distances.
#6 GUNS N’ GRACES (20-1): The Gun Runner filly graduated last out in a one-mile and 40-yard maiden special weight in which she recorded a 78 Speed rating. Brown’s other runner in the field, the dark bay is coming off a more than two-month layoff and will get Joel Rosario, a 19% winner with routes but just a 10% winner this meet.
#7 LYNX (12-1): Third to Infinite Diamond in the Cash Run last out, Lynx has failed to score in her last two at route distances after going undefeated in her first three starts, each of which were sprints. Trainer David Carlos has failed to win in his last 16 graded stakes, but a switch back to jockey Edgard Zayas (17% winner this meet) could trigger improvement for Lynx.
#8 ADELIESE’S SMILE (30-1): By Uncle Mo, Adeliese’s Smile broke her maiden at a mile in her fourth career start. She then came home ninth in the Forward Gal, finishing 31 lengths behind Red Carpet Ready. Conditioner Jose Jimenez is just a 5% winner with routes and an 8% winner at Gulfstream.
#9 DORTH VADER (15-1): A distant third to Atomically in the Florida Sire My Dear Girl S., Dorth Vader went on to win a pair of sprints to close out the 2022 season but tired to finish 11 lengths in sixth as the favorite in the seven-furlong Gasparilla to kick off her 2023 campaign. Trainer Michael Yates is a 17% winner with beaten favorites but 0-for-9 in graded stakes and a 7% winner in his last 157 routes. Jockey Miguel Vasquez will pick up the mount and is a 16% winner this meet.
#10 LEAVE NO TRACE (5-1): The Outwork filly placed second last out in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) to Wonder Wheel and will cut back in distance here for Phil Serpe, who is 0-for-31 at Gulfstream this meet. The dark bay has never finished out of the money in four career starts, and she’s posted a number of sharp workouts leading up to her 2023 debut. Tyler Gaffalione will pick up the mount and wins at an 18% rate at Gulfstream.
