Hawthorne: Analyzing Pick 6 and Super High 5 carryovers

A couple of carryovers are up for grabs on Sunday at Hawthorne.
The $1 Pick 6 features a $2,413 prize pool and gets underway in Race 2 (post time 4:05 p.m. ET), while the carryover for the $1 Super High 5 stands at $1,463 and is on the table in Race 7 (post time 6:13 p.m. ET).
Hawthorne: $2,413 Pick 6 carryover
One of the most intriguing legs of the Pick 6 is Race 6, a $7,500 claimer for older horses racing one mile and 70 yards on dirt. Morning-line favorite #2 Niles Channel (2-1) doesn’t look unbeatable after finishing second in a $5,000 claimer over this track and distance on March 30, earning a 73 Brisnet Speed rating seven points lower than the par winning number (80) for Sunday’s conditions.
We believe #5 Code Runner (6-1) has a big upset chance. He exits a third-place finish in a $13,500 starter optional claimer racing one mile and 70 yards at Hawthorne, for which he earned a 72 Brisnet Speed rating.
That effort marked Code Runner’s first start of the season. Last September at Hawthorne, Code Runner won a 1 1/16-mile $10,000 claimer at Hawthorne by 2 1/2 lengths with an 87 Brisnet Speed rating. Dropping into the $7,500 claiming ranks for his second start of the year should put this eight-year-old gelding thoroughly in the hunt for victory. Pick 6 bettors should definitely include Code Runner on their tickets (maybe even singling him), and if his 6-1 morning-line odds hold up, a win bet is also in order:

Hawthorne: $1,463 Super High 5 carryover
In addition to being the race in which the Super High 5 is offered, Race 7 is the last leg of the Pick 6. It’s a $5,000 claimer for fillies and mares who have never won three races, and the distance is 5 1/2 furlongs on dirt.
We recommend Pick 6 bettors include two horses: #1 Honor His Half (5-2) and #7 Fast N Happy (7-2).
Honor His Half ran well in a five-furlong sprint over this track and class level last month. After dueling for the lead, he stayed on to finish second by one length, earning a sharp 71 Brisnet Speed rating three points higher than the par winning number for Sunday’s conditions.
Fast N Happy faltered in a $12,500 claimer over this track and distance two weeks ago, finishing fifth. But two starts back, she rallied for third place in a $7,500 claimer on Tapeta at Turfway Park, earning a 78 Brisnet Speed rating.
Super High 5 bettors should build their tickets around Honor His Self and Fast N Happy, counting on one to win and the other to finish in the top three.
Good luck!
