How to bet Santa Anita’s $52,051 Pick 6 carryover
The Sunday card at Santa Anita features two graded stakes and a $52,051 carryover in the $1 Pick 6.
Let’s take a race-by-race look at the Pick 6 sequence and assemble a ticket on a $72 budget:
Race 6: $20,000 Maiden Claiming (seven furlongs on dirt)
#4 I’m Still In It (2-1) fits well at this class level, but she has a tendency to settle for minor awards. #6 Blue Fashion (5-2) is an appealing alternative; she’s competed primarily on turf, but her lone dirt start yielded a solid third in a Santa Anita maiden special weight.
Race 7: $50,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (six furlongs on turf)
We’ll use three horses here: #4 Triple Diamonds (5-2), who tenaciously won his debut on turf at Del Mar; #5 Cali Cat (4-1), who is dropping down in class and distance off an eighth in the Zuma Beach (G3); and #2 Frank Bullitt (3-1), a fast Los Alamitos maiden winner trying turf for the first time.
Race 8: La Canada (G3, 1 1/16 miles on dirt)
#1 Alpha Bella (9-5) is a logical win threat off runner-up finishes in the Zenyatta (G2) and Bayakoa (G3). But #6 Cavalieri (8-5), a fast-working Bob Baffert trainee unbeaten in two starts, also has a strong chance to shine.

Race 9: Las Cienegas (G3, about 6 1/2 furlongs on turf)
#1 Just Nails (2-1), #4 Laulne (12-1), and #6 Toupie (8-5) have all won stakes over Santa Anita’s downhill turf course. We’ll count on one of these three to get the job done in the Las Cienegas.
Race 10: $50,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (one mile on dirt)
#4 Halone (6-5) is a logical favorite after smashing a one-mile maiden special weight at Del Mar last time out by 7 1/4 lengths, earning a 92 Brisnet Speed rating. We’ll take a chance singling this Baffert trainee in the penultimate leg of the Pick 6.
Race 11: Maiden Special Weight (one mile on turf)
Zuma Beach participant #8 Uncle Evco (3-1) looks like the best of the experienced runners in this field of California-bred maidens. But don’t underestimate the fast-working first-time starter #4 Fairlyfondofyou (6-5), who is eligible to factor on debut under hot jockey Flavien Prat.
