Turf Paradise: Race 2: $12,500 Maiden Claiming (six furlongs on dirt, 2:55 p.m. ET)

Last time out, #8 Spaghetti Tree (3-1) showed some tactical speed in a $16,000 maiden claimer sprinting seven furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs before tiring to finish sixth out of nine.

Dropping in class and adding Lasix for her first start outside of Florida should help Spaghetti Tree vie for victory against Monday’s field, which hasn’t come up especially tough on paper. Let’s try betting her to win.

Trainer Kevin Eikleberry wins at a spectacular 39% rate with first-time starters, so Eikleberry’s unraced four-year-old filly #2 Frank’s Lorraine (6-1) is worthy of a win bet on debut.

A daughter of Munnings (who sires a solid 15% winners from first-time starters), Frank’s Lorraine is a half-sister to stakes winners Charlie’s Penny and Mom’s Red Lipstick. She’s bred for success and exits a pair of five-furlong workouts at Turf Paradise.

Turf Paradise: Race 4: $30,000 Maiden Optional Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 3:55 p.m. ET)

#5 Firefight (7-2) has only run once on dirt. In a six-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs last fall, he pressed the pace outside of rivals and led in midstretch before faltering late to finish second by three-quarters of a length.

That effort earned a sharp 84 Brisnet Speed rating. Returning to dirt at Turf Paradise gives Firefight a chance to beat morning-line favorite #3 Brownstone (5-2), a class-dropping colt who hasn’t run since June.

We’ll keep things simple with a win bet on Firefight.
