Best Bets and Quick Picks
Turf Paradise: Race 5: $20,000 Maiden Claiming (6 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 4:49 p.m. ET)
#8 Tennyson Way (5-2) hasn’t raced in nearly a year, but early in 2024 he showed promise in a pair of maiden special weights at Golden Gate Fields, recording third-place finishes with respectable Brisnet Speed ratings of 71 and 72.
A sharp five-furlong workout from the Pleasanton starting gate in 1:00 2/5 on Jan. 12 suggests Tennyson Way can win his comeback for hot trainer Jamey Thomas, a 40% winner at Turf Paradise this meet. The fact Tennyson Way is picking up accomplished apprentice jockey Manuel Americano (who rides with a five-pound weight allowance) adds to the appeal.
While horses are the most important factor in handicapping any race, many bettors look toward jockey statistics to strengthen their opinions and separate top contenders.@J_Keelerman helps you understand rider stats 👇 https://t.co/asGyQ1e0YO

Let’s bet Tennyson Way to win and single him to start a Pick 3.
Selections
- #8 Tennyson Way (5-2)
- #1 Calorese (12-1)
- #5 Yellow Jacket (7-2)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #8 Tennyson Way
- $10 Pick 3: 8 with 8 with 3
Total: $30
Turf Paradise: Race 6: $8,500 Claiming (six furlongs on dirt, 5:18 p.m. ET)
#8 Cowboy Kisses (5-2) is shipping in from California. Two starts back, the eight-year-old gelding carved out the pace in a $10,000 claimer at Pleasanton before staying on to finish second by 1 3/4 lengths.
Dropping into an $8,500 claimer at Turf Paradise should give Cowboy Kisses every chance to beat #2 Don Juan Bubba (3-1), a local runner who finished second over this track, distance, and class level on Jan. 21.
Let’s bet Cowboy Kisses over Don Juan Bubba in the exacta.
Selections
- #8 Cowboy Kisses (5-2)
- #2 Don Juan Bubba (3-1)
- #5 Passion of Joe’s (6-1)
Wagers
- $10 Exacta: 8 with 2
Turf Paradise: Race 7: $4,000 Claiming (one mile on dirt, 5:47 p.m. ET)
Roughly one year ago, #3 My Indy (8-5) proved much the best in a one-mile $4,000 claimer at Turf Paradise, dueling for the early lead before drawing off to win by 4 1/4 lengths with a sharp 80 Brisnet Speed rating.
My Indy hasn’t run since, but sharp workouts at Turf Paradise since December (including six furlongs in 1:12 4/5) suggest he’ll return victorious for hot trainer Vann Belvoir. The fact My Indy will be ridden by Americano (a 43% winner teaming up with Belvoir over the last two months) adds to the appeal.
A win bet is in order.
Selections
- #3 My Indy (8-5)
- #9 Harbor Thunder (6-1)
- #4 The Golden Egg (10-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #3 My Indy
Good luck!
