Picks for KDBC Qualifier and $5,301 Pick 6 carryover

February 8th, 2025

A KDBC qualifier tournament and a $5,301 Pick 6 carryover are among the lucrative opportunities for bettors to pursue on Saturday.

Today’s special offers from TwinSpires include:

  • New Players $200 Sign-Up Bonus: Open your TwinSpires.com account using the offer code BET200 to start earning a $200 bonus.
  • Sam F. Davis Day 15% Profit Boost: Receive a 15% boost (up to $25 for the day) on winning win, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta wagers at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.

Today’s TwinSpires tournaments include:

$500 Sam F. Davis/Oaklawn KDBC Qualifier

You can win an entry into the 2025 Kentucky Derby Betting Challenge (KDBC) if you finish high enough in Saturday’s $500 Sam F. Davis/Oaklawn KDBC Qualifier tournament on TwinSpires.

Bet your entire $250 bankroll across at least seven races at either Tampa Bay Downs or Oaklawn Park (minimum $20 per race) to climb the leaderboard.

The Saturday card at Tampa is an excellent one highlighted by Race 11, the Sam F. Davis S., a Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifier featuring a competitive 10-horse field. John Mucciolo of TwinSpires prefers the chances of #2 Treaty of Rome (6-1), and you can check out his Tipsheet for tournament-eligible win, exacta, and trifecta wager recommendations.

Another Tampa race you’ll want to bet is Race 7, a one-mile and 40-yard maiden special weight for three-year-olds. #3 Weekendsandwhiskey (3-1) sold for $850,000 as a yearling and looks ready to win on debut. He’s put together a sharp work tab (highlighted by a trio of bullet exercises) for trainer Todd Pletcher, who has gone 3-for-9 (33%) debuting three-year-old males in dirt routes at Tampa since 2020.

Assuming Weekendsandwhiskey’s 3-1 morning-line odds hold up, a large win bet is in order. We suggest a $40 variety.

Fair Grounds $5,301 Pick 6 carryover

Planning to play Fair Grounds on Saturday? Then consider betting the $1 Pick 6, which features a $5,301 carryover.

The opening leg of the sequence is Race 3, a $15,000 maiden claimer for three-year-old fillies sprinting six furlongs on dirt. The Fair Grounds main track has played favorably toward inside runners over the past couple of days, so don’t leave midrange longshot #1 Beamer (8-1) off your tickets.

Beamer is cutting back in class and distances after finishing fourth and sixth in $30,000 maiden claimers racing one mile or farther at Fair Grounds. Trainer Bret Calhoun wins at a 32% rate with horses dropping multiple levels down the class ladder, and at a 20% rate with horses making the route-to-sprint transition, so trainer stats suggest Beamer is a live upset threat.

Good luck!
