Best Bets and Quick Picks

Will Rogers Downs: Race 4: $7,500 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 3:36 p.m. ET)

#5 Pea Eye (2-1) is hands-down the horse to beat after finishing second by narrow margins in a pair of $15,000 maiden claiming sprints at Will Rogers Downs. Those efforts yielded Brisnet Speed ratings of 66 and 65, both higher than the par winning number (64) for Tuesday’s conditions.

#2 The Winning Edge (3-1) can battle with Oaklawn Park shipper #4 Sweet Devotion (6-1) to round out the exacta.

Selections

  • #5 Pea Eye (2-1)
  • #4 Sweet Devotion (6-1)
  • #2 The Winning Edge (3-1)

Wagers

  • $15 Exacta: 5 with 2,4 ($30)

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 4:45 p.m. ET)

#1 Insta Kiss (2-1) has finished sixth and fifth in her first two starts against maiden special weight competition on Tapeta at Turfway Park. One of those defeats came against Verity, who has since won the Beaumont (G2) at Keeneland.

Insta Kiss may find the competition a bit easier at Horseshoe Indianapolis and switching to dirt opens the door for improvement. She’s worth betting to win and singling to start a double wager.

Selections

  • #1 Insta Kiss (2-1)
  • #9 Collected Bond (6-1)
  • #8 Renoir (8-1)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #1 Insta Kiss
  • $10 Double: 1 with 6
    Total: $30

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 7: Allowance (six furlongs on dirt, 5:16 p.m. ET)

Trainer Randy Klopp has been hot to start the Horseshoe Indianapolis, compiling a stellar 8-4-2-1 record. That’s a 50% win rate and an 88% in-the-money rate.

#6 Oil Man (7-2) can keep Klopp’s hot streak going. After winning back-to-back $15,000 claimers at Horseshoe Indianapolis, he wrapped up his 2024 campaign with a runner-up finish (beaten only a neck) in a 5 1/2-furlong allowance.

Tackling the same conditions in his 2025 debut can send Oil Man to the winner’s circle under hot jockey Joseph Ramos. Let’s bet Oil Man to win and single him in our double bet.

Selections

  • #6 Oil Man (7-2)
  • #10 Solar Power (15-1)
  • #5 Rigoberto (3-1)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #6 Oil Man

Carryover Watch

Turf Paradise: Race 5: $4,901 Pick 5 carryover (6:06 p.m. ET)

The highlight of Tuesday’s card at Turf Paradise is a non-jackpot $4,901 carryover in the 50-cent Pick 5.

A tricky sequence is on the agenda. Each leg of the Pick 5 contains at least nine horses, and there are 46 entries in total, averaging 9.2 per race. It all works out to 65,610 possible outcomes.

If you’re thinking, “I’d like to simplify the complexity of this Pick 5 a bit,” we have good news. If you single #9 Tranche (5-2) in Race 8, you can slice the number of possible outcomes to consider all the way down to 7,290.

At first glance, Tranche might seem like a risky single. Race 8 is a $15,000 allowance optional claimer taking place over one mile on turf, and Tranche hasn’t cracked the trifecta in three grass starts.

But take note, those efforts came on the tougher Southern California circuit. Tranche has finished eighth in the five-furlong Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita, fifth in a five-furlong $40,000 allowance optional claimer at Del Mar, and 10th in a one-mile $40,000 allowance optional claimer at Del Mar. In the latter race, Tranche led from the start until inside the final furlong and was beaten only five lengths.

Dropping sharply in class should be all Tranche needs to visit the winner’s circle. After all, his Brisnet Speed ratings stand out against Tuesday’s field. In eight starts since transferring to the care of Adam Kitchingman, Tranche has posted Brisnet Speed ratings of 82, 91, 82, 91, 84, 84, 102, and 86. Consider this: Tranche’s lowest number in that streak is an 82, and only one of his Tuesday rivals has posted a higher number higher than that (specifically, an 84) in 2024 or 2025.

Tranche’s massive 102 Brisnet Speed rating came in a $50,000 allowance optional claimer racing 1 1/16 miles over the Santa Anita dirt. After setting the pace, he weakened slightly in the final furlong to finish second by 1 1/4 lengths against New King, who has since competed in the Santa Anita H. (G1) and run second in the Frank Y. Whiteley S.

For all these reasons, we feel confident recommending Tranche as a Pick 5 single. We also suggest betting him to win:

  • Race 8: $30 to win on #9 Tranche

Good luck!
