No one solved the Super High 5 on Friday at Turfway Park, which means Saturday’s offering of the $1 wager is bolstered by a $2,561 carryover.
The carryover is up for grabs in Race 12, the $777,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3). The Jeff Ruby Steaks is one of six stakes on an action-packed card that comprises half of Saturday’s $800 Louisiana Derby/Jeff Ruby Steaks KDBC Qualifier tournament on TwinSpires.com. Bet your entire $400 bankroll across at least 10 races (minimum $20 per race) at Turfway Park and Fair Grounds to climb the leaderboard and vie for an entry into the 2025 Kentucky Derby Betting Challenge.

Super High 5 wagers aren’t eligible for tournament play, but thanks to the carryover, we recommend betting the Super High 5 just the same.
We’ll focus our attention on five horses:
#3 California Burrito (7-2): After setting a slow pace in the John Battaglia Memorial at Turfway, California Burrito turned back a challenge to win by half a length with a respectable 92 Brisnet Speed rating. He’s 2-for-3 over Turfway’s synthetic Tapeta track and looms as a logical top-five contender.
#6 Baby Max (5-1): The John Battaglia Memorial runner-up nearly caught California Burrito after tracking the slow pace. Perhaps adding blinkers will sharpen Baby Max’s speed and help him turn the tables.
#9 Poster (3-1): Winner of the Remsen (G2) as a juvenile, Poster missed some January training due to winter weather, but nevertheless opened 2025 with a solid third-place finish in a deep renewal of the Sam F. Davis S. at Tampa Bay Downs. He’s trained extensively at Turfway and should handle Tapeta in his first race over this surface.
#10 Maximum Promise (5-1): A troubled start and a slow pace compromised Maximum Promise in the John Battaglia Memorial, but he nevertheless rallied to finish third. There’s more speed entered in the Jeff Ruby, and a fast pace can help Maximum Promise rally to the winner’s circle.
#12 He’s Not Joking (15-1): Two disappointing runs on dirt have muddied He’s Not Joking’s recent form, but he thrived on Tapeta at Woodbine last year, most notably winning the Grey (G3) by four lengths. There’s a chance he’ll rebound over the Turfway Tapeta.
We’ll also add #2 Charlie’s to Blame (15-1), #5 Flying Mohawk (15-1), and #7 Giocoso (30-1) to the bottom of our tickets:
- $1 Super High 5: 9,10 with 9,10 with 3,6,12 with 3,6,12 with 2,3,5,6,7,12 ($48)
- $1 Super High 5: 9,10 with 3,6,12 with 9,10 with 3,6,12 with 2,3,5,6,7,12 ($48)
Total: $96
In addition, if you’re playing the tournament, consider betting trifectas with our five preferred horses:
- $2 Trifecta: 9,10 with 9,10 with 3,6,12 ($12)
- $2 Trifecta: 9,10 with 3,6,12 with 9,10 ($12)
Total: $24
Good luck!
