With Anticipation Stakes field analysis and exotics plays
Saratoga's Wednesday card will feature the With Anticipation S. (G3) for two-year-olds in the penultimate racing event (Race 9) of the evening.
Below we provide a full-field analysis and give you our best exotics plays, including exacta, trifecta, and superfecta tickets, for the 1 1/16-mile stakes race on the Spa's inner turf.
#1 Battle of Normandy (3-1): The City of Light son won his debut on Aug. 6 in a $105,000 maiden special weight at today's distance, in which he posted a 71 Brisnet Speed rating while winning by 2 1/4 lengths over the 1.90-1 favorite Alexis Zorba. Trainer Shug McGaughey is an 18% winner with horses making their second start on grass and a 19% winner in graded stakes, but he's just 3-for-33 during Saratoga's summer meet.
Post one also has a low win percentage, and jockey Kendrick Carmouche is an 8% winner in his last 178 turf rides.
#2 Andthewinneris (5-1): A grandson of Kitten's Joy, Andthewinneris broke his maiden on debut in a turf sprint at Keeneland, then tried dirt in the six-furlong Bashford Manor S. at Churchill Downs, where he came home third by 12 lengths to Saratoga Special (G2) second-placegetter Gulfport on July 4.
The Wayne Catalano pupil will make his first start in nearly two months and will try a route distance for the first time. Andthewinneris showed good late speed on the grass in his debut and will switch back to jockey Flavien Prat, a 24% winner on turf and 19% winner this meet.
#3 Noble Huntsman (8-1): The New York-bred finished 3 1/4 lengths behind in fifth in his second career race, the 5 1/2-furlong Skidmore S., and will now stretch out to a route distance for the first time. Trainer Mitchell Friedman is a 5% winner in his last 62 turf starts and 1-for-17 with first-time route runners. Manny Franco (16% winner this meet) is named to ride.
#4 Bourbon Therapy (20-1): The dark bay broke his maiden on his third try on June 27 at Horseshoe Indianapolis while trained by John Ennis and will make his first start for Michael Maker while also moving up in class. Luis Saez will pick up the mount and has won 28% of his last 43 rides when paired up with Maker, but Bourbon Therapy's recent speed figures in five-furlong sprints give cause for pause ahead of his first try at a route distance.
#5 El Conejito (12-1): The two-year-old gelding won on debut in a $55,000 maiden special weight at one mile on Monmouth Park's turf while posting a 63 Speed rating. Trainer John Stephens is a 6% winner with shippers and 7% winner in 2022. Jockey Jomar Torres is a 6% winner on turf over the last two months.
#6 Bramble Blaze (8-1): The Summer Front colt also won a one-mile maiden special weight at Monmouth Park on debut and clocked a 70 Speed rating in the narrow triumph. Jose Lezcano will pick up the mount for the Michael Dini trainee.
#7 Quincy Cafe (20-1): The son of Mendelssohn was placed first through disqualification last out in a seven-furlong sprint at Laurel Park and now makes his first try on grass and at a route distance in his debut at Saratoga. Trainer Lacey Gaudet is 0-for-20 with horses making their first start on turf, and jockey Eric Cancel is just a 6% winner this meet. But Quincy Cafe's pedigree indicates he'll like grass, and his Late Speed figures suggest he could contend for the minor awards with the right trip.
TwinSpires Edge voters have made it clear: they’d like Mendelssohn to be one of the first-crop sires that we focus on in 2022.https://t.co/ROzUhyMqf0

#8 Lachaise (5-1): The Kitten Joy's grandson won on debut at 1 1/16 miles on Saratoga's turf and posted an 81 Brisnet rating in his 1 1/4-length victory. Jose Ortiz will jump in the saddle with Prat switching to Andthewinneris. Conditioner Jorge Abreu is a 25% winner with horses coming off a maiden win, but he's 0-for-34 in graded stakes.
#9 Our Dream Rye'd (4-1): The More Than Ready colt broke his maiden in his second career start, a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight at Saratoga in which he flashed an 83 Brisnet figure, the highest last-race speed figure among the field. Julien Leparoux will stay in the silks for trainer Ian Wilkes, a 14% winner with horses running their second turf race.
#10 Boppy O (8-1): The Bolt d'Oro son was 10th of 12 last out in a six-furlong dirt sprint at Saratoga and will now try grass and a route distance for Mark Casse. Jockey Dylan Davis is just a 7% winner this meet and an 11% winner on turf.
#11 Determinedly (6-1; AE): If a scratch allows the Cairo Prince son to enter the field, he'll have a chance to hit the board after posting an 82 Brisnet figure at 1 1/16 miles when finishing second to Our Dream Rye'd at Saratoga last out.
