Woodbine Sunday Pick 4 Play

Woodbine will play host to a solid 12-race card on Sunday. The $125,000 Trillium (G3) is the feature and kicks off what I think is a very appealing late Pick-4 sequence. I will take a swing at what could be a very healthy payout.

Race 9

Ten will go postward in the 1 1/16-mile race on the All-Weather. I have to go deep to kick things off as no horse would surprise me in a well-matched and talented field. 

#9 MY MISS MOMENTUM (6-1), who toppled Dixie Moon in the Selene (G3) last time, rates as my top choice. But she can’t be a single in this feature.

The “all” button is the play for me.

Race 10

Turf sprint allowance test attracted 10 in another tough handicapping assignment.

#1 ESCONDERA (5-1), #3 HOUDINI AFFAIR (6-1), #6 CHILL (3-1), #7 STRIKE REVENGE (5-2) and #9 WEDGEWOOD (15-1) are the ones I will use.

Race 11

Optional claimer on the main surface has nine signed on and I will go two-deep.

#4 CONQUEST ELIMINATIR (6-1) had just about everything go wrong in a turf sprint off the layoff. Gelded four-year-old broke poorly, made a big middle move and then tired late in his comeback. A move to the main oval and an upgrade to Luis Contreras should help the speed player. The connections are red-hot at this meeting, too.

#7 FIRE FOR EFFECT (3-1) is my top pick in the race. Ralph Biamonte trainee goes turf-to-synthetic third time off the shelf and has the right running style to get first run turning for home. Smart Strike colt shows a swift :47 2/5 half-mile drill in the interim and the stretch out will aid the four-year-old.

Race 12

Turf maiden claiming test has a dozen contenders in a tough final leg.

#5 REMEMBER GIZMO (9-2) has a lot of appeal making a slew of changes today. Chestnut runs for a trainer at 29% at the meeting, runs with blinkers off and also takes a big class drop second off the pine. Gelding also stretches out while trying the turf for the first time. Getting 26% turf jockey Eurico da Silva to ride him back is viewed as a huge positive.

#7 AWESOME JOEY (10-1) intrigues a good deal in a second off the layoff. Smith pupil showed big early speed in a sprint with much better before caving late last out but drops in class and switches to the lawn. North Light gelding gets a big rider upgrade to 23% turf pilot Patrick Husbands and is a viable wire-to-wire candidate at a price.
