Stakes Spot Plays for Remington on Friday

September 18th, 2024

A trio of black-type tilts for Oklahoma-bred runners on the lawn will headline a really good evening of racing at Remington Park on Friday.

Race 4 – Remington Park Turf Sprint

The five-furlong dash on the sod attracted seven, and #2 Breakable Code (6-1) has appeal to me at a price for conditioner Joe Offolter. The Code West gelding is 2-for-3 on the main strip in his lifetime and has the early speed to be a factor from the break in the heat. The bay is bred to like the lawn and he’s worth a play at his morning-line number under Richard Eramia.

Race 7 – Bob Barry Memorial S.

Fillies and mares will travel 7 1/2 panels on the green with eight signed on for the affair. I’ll give attention to another Code West filly in this spot with #6 C W Charm (6-1). Trained by Juan Padilla, the dark bay has improved her Brisnet Speed figure in each lifetime try to date, and she has shown marked improvement since moving to the turf three back, as well. The sophomore faces her elders which will be a challenge, but the lass possesses a big turn of foot and should get a decent voyage with a strong pace expected in the event. Luis Quinonez will take the reins.

Race 9 – Red Earth S.

A total of eight males will vie in the well-matched finale. #7 Tap the Dot (5-2), who won this race in 2023, will be a major win threat with a top showing for Steve Asmussen. The six-year-old son of Moro Tap ran into a fine winner at Lone Star in May and has trained well in the interim in advance of his return. The gray dons a smart 7-3-2-1 mark on the course and has the right running style to stalk the early tempo and get first run on the deep closing types at the top of the lane. Stewart Elliot will be in the stirrups atop the leading selection.

#5 Mind Bolt (10-1) is also interesting at a square price for trainer Bret Calhoun. The Bolt d’Oro colt ran just evenly in his latest showing, but he will benefit from having a run over the surface and move forward in his second run locally. Regular rider Jose Alvarez will guide the three-year-old.
