Tabbing an Upset in the Susan’s Girl Stakes
A total of seven juvenile fillies will vie in Saturday’s $200,000 Susan’s Girl S. at Gulfstream Park. The seven-furlong dash on the dirt for Florida-bred fillies is led by Saffie Joseph’s #5 R Morning Brew, who dominated the Desert Vixen S. on the surface to make it two facile wins in succession to begin her career in her latest run. But I feel that this group has a lot of depth and will look to upend the horse to beat.
Susan’s Girl Wagers
- $15 win and place #1 Wiggle An’ Wine ($30)
- 50-cent superfecta 1 with 2,3,5 with 2,3,5 with all ($12)
- 30-cent superfecta 2,3,5 with 1 with 2,3,5 with all ($7.20)
#1 Wiggle An’ Wine has been outrun in the stretch in both the Sharp Susan S. and Desert Vixen S. as of late, but I expect the Jose Pinchin trainee to receive a different kind of voyage this time en route to posting an upset tally from the rail. By Awesome Slew, the bay was a sharp debut winner on the oval and has given a nice account of herself since. In the Susan’s Girl, I envision the talented lass to tuck in behind a contested pace to the top of the lane while saving all the ground, prior to moving to the fore in late stretch. Regular pilot Emisael Jaramillo will guide the Sunshine State-bred filly.
#3 Win N Your In was hammered down to 1-2 odds in the Desert Vixen S. and finished third, but the dark bay daughter of Win Win Win can’t be overlooked at a more reasonable number on Saturday. Conditioned by Carlos David, the filly was a dominant winner of the Sharp Susan S. two prior when registering a 96 Brisnet Speed number, and she will be a major player on Saturday with something resembling that endeavor. The March foal has early speed and will always be in the mix beneath Miguel Vasquez.
In addition to using R Morning Brew in the exotics, I will also toss in #2 Rogue Diamond for trainer Larry Rivelli. June foal led at every call in a facile win in her unveiling at Hawthorne, and I expect the bay to take a nice step forward in her second try for a fine juvenile conditioner. The filly smoked a wicked four panels in her latest morning move, and if she runs to that swift move, then she will be a contender in her first try with Florida-bred foes. Leo Reyes inherits what might be a live mount.
