The best No. 13s in sports history

November 10th, 2020

Friday the 13th is just around the corner, but while superstitions and psychopaths in hockey masks are the first things that come to mind, there are amazing players who wore the supposedly unlucky number of 13.

Let's count down the 13 best athletes to ever wear the No. 13.

13. Odell Beckham

Beckham’s knack for beyond-belief catches have made him one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL.

12. Pavel Datsyuk

This Red Wings center won two Stanley Cups for Detroit and is a three-time winner of the Selke Trophy.

11. Kurt Warner

From a bag boy to Super Bowl MVP, Warner’s story of perseverance is almost as incredible as his prolific career.

10. James Harden

The best scorer in the modern NBA, Harden has been a key piece on several prolific teams over the years.

9. Moses Malone

Malone only wore 13 when he played for the ABA’s Spirits of St. Louis, but soon moved on to the NBA, where he won a title with the 76ers in 1983.

8. Maurice Clarett

The troubled Clarett let his personal demons get in the way of a potentially productive professional career, but his 2002 season for Ohio State was one for the ages.

7. Kristine Lilly

Lilly played for the U.S. women's national soccer team for 23 years. She is only behind Abby Wambach and Mia Hamm in goals for the USWNT.

6. Omar Vizquel

An 11-time Gold Glove winner, with 2,877 hits to his name, Vizquel was one of the best shortstops to ever take the field.

5. Steve Nash

The versatile point guard won back-to-back league MVPs and was the centerpiece of the memorable “seven seconds or less” Phoenix Suns.

4. Dan Marino

At the time of his retirement, Marino was the all-time leader in passing yards, completions, touchdown passes, and more.

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

3. Alex Rodriguez

Rodriguez was a 14-time All-Star and won the American League MVP three times, before his only World Series title with the Yankees in 2009.

2. Roberto Clemente

Clemente was a 13-time All-Star, at 12-time Gold Glove winner, and earned two World Series titles with the Pirates in the 1960s.

1. Wilt Chamberlain

Chamberlain was so incredible that he had his No. 13 jersey retired by three different NBA teams and the Harlem Globetrotters. A 13-time All-Star and one of the greatest scorers in the history of the NBA, Chamberlain won two NBA titles and a Finals MVP in 1972.
