Street Sense Stakes Contenders
#1 GENEROUS TIPPER: Breeders’ Futurity (G1) third has put in a trio of solid races on the dirt leading up to Sunday. This McPeek trainee has never run on the oval but has trained locally since the summer, and I expect him to perform well from the rail post here. Regular rider Brian Hernandez, Jr. has the assignment.
#2 GETTYSBURG ADDRESS: Constitution colt didn’t run especially fast in his debut win at Ellis Park, but the Brad Cox pupil looked the part and could be any kind trying two turns on this occasion. The Kentucky-bred is another who uses this as his home base, so the transition to Louisville should be a seamless one for the bay. Flavien Prat riding adds to his appeal.
#3 NORTHERN FLAME: Breeders’ Futurity (G1) fourth gets a measure of class relief in the tilt with Julien Leparoux retaining the mount. This $425,000 Flameaway colt has improved his Brisnet Speed number in each lifetime run to date, and further progression will make him an obvious contender from off the pace. The Kentucky-bred broke his maiden beneath the Twin Spires two back, as well.
#4 MOONLIGHT: Top pick from the Pletcher barn has put in a pair of superb runs to start his career for Todd Pletcher. The Audible colt was a fine second on the lawn at first asking, prior to dominating special-weight foes on the dirt in his latest appearance. This March foal has early foot and will enjoy a perfect trip from the break beneath Luis Saez.
#5 PARCHMENT PARTY: Second timer from the Mott shedrow made a stunning last-to-first move to graduate at 1 1/16 miles at first asking on the oval and rates an obvious chance with expected improvement second time out. The June foal has obvious room for improvement and growth, and he gives the impression of a fine long-term prospect. James Graham will be in the irons.
#6 INFORMED PATRIOT: Speedy Asmussen trainee held well in graduating in his second career appearance on the surface last time out and can’t be overlooked in this spot. This Hard Spun colt is from a very good family and he is another who could make a lot of noise with a forward move on Sunday. Tyler Gaffalione retains the ride.
#7 BARKSDALE: $235,000 Street Sense colt led throughout in a first-out win at Indiana in his first offering for Walden. The dark bay has obvious promise, but he will have to get much faster to challenge for the win in this field with Alex Achard in the controls.
#8 LIBERAL ARTS: Medina trainee ran well to be third in the Iroquois S. (G3) from the rail in his latest outing, but he faces a more difficult group while drawing widest in the event, too. The ever-improving son of Arrogate could grab a share but would be a surprise to win the race. Christian Torres has the call.
#8 Informed Patriot hangs on to break his maiden at second asking in R5 at Churchill Downs! The 2-year-old colt was piloted by @Tyler_Gaff and is trained by Steve Asmussen. 🇺🇸
