Winning jockey Jerion Barbosa and trainer Michael Stidham describe Tom's Magic raw talent that was put on display today in the Black Gold Stakes at the Fair Grounds. “My instructions were to be patient,” Barbosa said. “He settled and I got him in a good spot saving ground. At the three-eighths pole I knew I had a lot of horse. I waited on (Golden Afternoon) and when he moved, I moved too. He opened the rail and when I asked, (Tom’s Magic) responded.” “He is really handy and kind of a raw talent,” Stidham said. “We’ve seen it right from the beginning. He was kind of green when he broke his maiden here and we gave him time. It paid off. He’s coming around and could be a nice horse. Being an Ontario bred, he might have a little date at Woodbine this summer.”
