Festival Preview Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs
Eight three-year-old colts and geldings will take a swing at a potential $1 million bonus when they line up for Saturday's Grade 3, $250,000 Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs.
The 34th edition of the mile-and-a-sixteenth Sam F. Davis on the main dirt track is the centerpiece of Saturday's 12-race Festival Preview Day card offering $500,000 in stakes purses, including the Grade III, $150,000 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Stakes for older horses at a mile-and-a-sixteenth on the turf and the $100,000 Suncoast Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at a mile-and-40-yards on the dirt.
The Sam F. Davis is the leading local prep for the $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby, but none of its participants will earn points toward eligibility in the $2 million Kentucky Derby. To enhance the quality of the field, Tampa Bay Downs is offering a $1 million bonus for any horse who sweeps the Davis, the March 8 Tampa Bay Derby and May 3 Kentucky Derby.
Racing begins at 12:30 p.m ET, the Suncoast is carded as the eighth race, followed by the Sam F. Davis and the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Stakes.

Festival Preview Day presented by Lambholm South has grown into a premier racing event for horses on the Road to the Roses in May! The 2014 edition of Festival Preview Day Presented by Lambholm South will be held February 1. Featured on the card will be the Grade III, $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes for 3-year-olds, an emerging race on the Kentucky Derby trail. The day will also feature the Grade III, $150,000 Endeavour Stakes on the turf for fillies and mares running 1 1/16 miles; and the Grade III, $150,000 Florida Oaks for 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.
