Flameaway
A son of Scat Daddy out of Vulcan Rose, Flameaway shares the same sire as the two probable 2018 Kentucky Derby favorites. Aguably lesser talented than the two mentioned Kentucky Derby favorites, Flameaway was purchased by noted owner John C. Oxley for $400,000 after being bred by Phoenix Thoroughbreds. He is trained by Mark Casse.
With a record of 5-2-0 over nine starts, Flameaway has collected $704,834 in career earnings but has done so with a mixed bag of results. He most recently finished second to Good Magic in the 2018 Blue Grass Stakes, while also serving as the runner-up in the 2018 Tampa Bay Derby. Prior to that he had collected wins in the Sam F. Davis Stakes and the Kitten’s Joy Stakes.
Originally run on turf, Flameaway also competed in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf but fell to 8th for his worst career finish.
His three-year-old season has been much stronger, and with valiant efforts in his last two outings, he is sure to draw some interest. Whether he can close the gap with the other sonds of Scat Daddy on the track remains to be seen.
