Q: What is the Jackpot 5?
A: The Jackpot 5 is a new and unique Pick 5 wager created by TwinSpires.com. For a base cost of $1 you have two ways to win.
1st Way to Win – The Jackpot Pool - In order to win the Jackpot pool a player must have the only unique winning ticket that selects all 5 winners.
2nd Way to Win – The “Show Pick 5” Pool – In order to have a winning Show Pick 5 payoff, a player must have a winning ticket in the “Show Pick 5” pool by selecting a horse that finishes third or better in all five Jackpot 5 races.
The Jackpot 5 will be comprised of five separate races from multiple tracks around the country and only available for wagering through TwinSpires.com.
Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: The Jackpot 5 is a $1 minimum wager. (Playing duplicate Jackpot 5 tickets would eliminate those duplicate tickets from winning the Jackpot Pool so only $1 base wagers are suggested)
Q: How do I play the Jackpot 5 on TwinSpires.com?
A: Simply select “Jackpot 5” from the list of available tracks on your favorite TwinSpires wagering experience. From there, you can build your Jackpot 5 wager as you would any Pick 5 wager.
Q: Which tracks will be used for the Jackpot 5 races?
A: The races selected for the Jackpot 5 will vary, and will be selected from a list that includes the Churchill Downs family of tracks - Arlington Park, Calder Race Course, Churchill Downs and Fair Grounds – as well as other prominent tracks from around the country.
Q: Are FREE PPs available for the Jackpot 5?
A: Yes. TwinSpires will offer FREE Brisnet.com PPs for each day the Jackpot 5 is offered. They will be available for downloading from the FREE PPs and Analysis section of the Jackpot 5 homepage at least 24 hours in advance of the first Jackpot 5 race.
Q: How is the Jackpot 5 different from a regular Pick 5 wager?
A: The Jackpot 5 is different from a regular Pick 5 wager in two ways:
(1). A Player can win the “Jackpot” pool by having the only unique ticket that correctly selects the winner of all five Jackpot 5 races. 20% of the Jackpot 5 pool, after takeout, including any carryover will be paid to the player holding the only winning ticket with all five winners of the Jackpot 5 races.
(2) A Player can have a winning ticket in the “Show Pick 5” pool by selecting a horse that finishes third or better in all five Jackpot 5 races. 80% of the Jackpot 5 pool, after takeout, will be paid to players with a ticket containing at least one horse finishing third or better in all five legs of the Jackpot 5.
Q: What happens if there are no tickets or more than one ticket with all five winners in the Jackpot 5?
A: In the event there are no tickets or two or more tickets with all five winning horses in the Jackpot 5, any existing Jackpot, plus 20% of the current day’s wagers into the Jackpot 5 pool (after takeout), will carry over to the next day the Jackpot 5 is offered.
Q: What is the takeout for the Jackpot 5?
A: The takeout for the Jackpot 5 is 20%. TwinSpires.com will be regularly seeding the Jackpot pool which will add a built-in overlay and reduce the effective takeout.
Q: What if there are no tickets with five horses that finish third or better?
A: The major pool (80% of the day’s wagers, after takeout) will be paid to the ticket(s) with a horse that finishes third or better in the most Jackpot 5 races.
Q: When can I play the Jackpot 5?
A: The Jackpot 5 will be offered for the first time on Saturday, August 17, with a “seeded” Jackpot pool of $25,000. The Jackpot 5 will be offered again on Sunday, August 18, and is currently scheduled to continue on a weekly basis, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check the Jackpot 5 home page for the official schedule. In most cases, post time for the first Jackpot 5 race will be around 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
Q: How can I find out about carryovers in the Jackpot 5?
A: TwinSpires.com will announce Jackpot 5 carryovers at www.twinspires.com and on the Jackpot 5 page at www.twinspires.com/jackpot5
Q: On the “Results” and “Recall Today’s Bets” displays, why does my Jackpot 5 bet appear as two wagers, one for 20 cents and one for 80 cents?
A: TwinSpires.com must submit two separate wagers to tote to create a $1 Jackpot 5 wager. The first wager is for 20-cents into the “Jackpot” pool and the second is for 80-cents into the “Show Pick 5” pool.
Q: What happens if a betting interest in the Jackpot 5 is scratched?
A: Once a Jackpot 5 wager is placed, if any betting interest selected in any leg of the Jackpot 5 is scratched, that horse will be replaced by the starting favorite, as determined by the final win pool in the corresponding race.
Q: If a betting interest I played in the Jackpot 5 has scratched and I also bet the starting favorite in the same leg and the favorite wins, can I still win the Jackpot?
A: No. Any tickets including both a scratched betting interest and the betting favorite will be considered two separate, non-unique tickets for the purposes of identifying unique tickets for the Jackpot pool.
Q: What happens if there is a dead heat to win or any other position?
A: If there is a dead heat for first in any of the Jackpot 5 contests then both horses will be considered winners for Jackpot 5 purposes. Any tickets including both dead heat winners will be considered two separate, unique tickets for the purposes of identifying unique tickets for the Jackpot pool.
If there is a dead heat in any of the Jackpot 5 contests that results in four or more betting interests receiving Show payoffs, all such betting interests will be considered winners for the purposes of paying out the “Show Pick 5” pool.
Q: What happens if a race is taken off the turf in the Jackpot 5?
A: If any race in the Jackpot 5 has a surface change, the selections and results for that race will stand regardless of whether the surface change occurs before or after the first race in the Jackpot 5.
Q: Can I cancel a Jackpot 5 wager?
A: No. Jackpot 5 wagers cannot be cancelled once they are accepted by TwinSpires.com.
Q: Will there ever be a mandatory payout in the Jackpot 5?
A: Yes. Once a Jackpot 5 carryover reaches or exceeds $500,000, the next Jackpot 5 event will be a mandatory payout. In a mandatory payout situation, the Jackpot 5 will convert to a traditional Pick 5 wager with no unique ticket provision, nor any Show Pick 5 payout. TwinSpires.com will provide advance notice on the TwinSpires.com website when the Jackpot 5 carryover is approaching $500,000.
Q: Are there Will Pays available for the Jackpot 5?
A: There will not be Will Pays available for the Jackpot 5.
