History of the Fukuryu Stakes
First run in 2000, the Fukuryu Stakes currently sits as the fourth and final race in the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby and offers the first four horses to finish 40-20-12-8-4 points respectively. Since its inception, the race has been held at the Nakayama Racecourse in Chiba.
Currently, five different riders are tied for most wins by a jockey: Hiroshi Kitamura (2000 & 2005), Yoshitomi Shibata (2001 & 2008), Hiroyuki Uchida (2004 & 2009), and Hirofumi Shii (2006 & 2012), and Takuya Kowata (2017 & 2023).
