Introducing the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational, a Grade II extravaganza in American Thoroughbred horse racing, exclusively designed for invited fillies and mares aged four years or older. This prestigious event unfolds over a challenging distance of 1 & 1⁄16 miles on the pristine turf of Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, captivating audiences annually in the heart of January. With a current purse that commands attention at $500,000, the stakes are high for contenders seeking racing glory.

The roots of this thrilling competition trace back to its inauguration on March 14, 2001, under the moniker of the Marshua's River Stakes. Originally spanning a shorter distance of approximately 5 furlongs, the race pays homage to the exceptional mare Marshua's River, a nine-time victor, including the Grade III Suwannee River Stakes. Notably, the event underwent a transformation in 2005, adapting to its present-day challenge of 1 & 1⁄16 miles.

The Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational ascended to Grade III status in 2011, marking a significant milestone in its evolution. A dynamic turn of events unfolded in 2021 when the race temporarily adjusted its distance to 1 mile. However, 2022 witnessed a grand rebranding as part of the illustrious Pegasus World Cup, accompanied by a notable increase in the purse to $500,000. The distance reverted to the original 1 & 1⁄16 miles, reinstating the race's true essence.

In a historic stride, 2024 witnessed the elevation of the event to Grade II status by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, cementing its standing as a premier showcase for the finest fillies and mares in American horse racing. As the anticipation builds for the next edition, the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational continues to redefine excellence on the turf.
