The Saudi Cup is a new race in the major horse racing global circuit and boasts of being the world's richest Thoroughbred horse race. Worth a total of $20 million dollars. $10 million awarded to the winner. A full field would consist of 14 contenders and aims to bridge the gap between the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park, USA and Dubai World Cup at Meydan, UAE.
Automatic bids will be awarded to the top three finishers in the Pegasus World Cup as Saudi Arabia will pay for connection flights, accommodations and horse stables, forage, farrier and vet care. The race day will boast an under-card consisting of a $1.5 million international race for Arabians, $500k Saudi Arabian bred handicap, 15 furlong $2.5m stayer handicap on the turf, a 6 furlong dirt sprint worth $1.5m, a middle-distance 10 1/2 furlong race on turf for $1m, a dirt mile for three-year-olds worth $800k and a turf sprint at about 6.7 furlongs worth $1m.
